This blog is an article for the Together Paper of Wagga Wagga Diocese June Edition.
This month why not listen to: S07 Ep08-10 – St Alphonsus Ligouri’s Uniformity to God’s
Will. If you’ve been following along you’ll remember I recommended reading St Alphonsus
Ligouri’s Uniformity to God’s Will in the previous issue of Together. If you have read it – or
need the impetus to do so – you can follow this three part series on the Living Fullness
podcast and listen along with Stina Constantine and Father Sean Byrnes as they unpack the
wisdom contained in this always relevant text. In case I didn’t mention it last issue, the text is
only about 30 A5 pages so it won’t require much time on your part. But it will be worth it!
Sing along to: Confidence by Sanctus Real, this is a favourite in our house. So much so
that I can’t remember who came across it first but it resonates with all ages! Simply put it is
about placing our confidence in God and what He wants to achieve through us. It recognises
our humility, humanity and our limitations while also recalling biblical figures who we can
emulate in the naturalness of their relationship with God: So give me faith like Daniel in the
lion’s den,
Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness, Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defence,
So I can face my giants with confidence.
Read: Forming Families, Forming Saints by Father Carter Griffin. I had the pleasure of
meeting Father Griffin a couple of years ago when he was the keynote speaker at a national
vocations direction conference in Sydney. Articulate, intelligent and an exceptional speaker,
he left a very favourable impression. But it was in amongst the more organic conversations
around the table between talks and during meals that I was impressed by his enthusiasm for
supporting families in their formation of their children. The book asks two important
questions: how do we raise children to be saints, and, how do we become saints. Expect an
eloquent, profound and yet practical answer. An added bonus is the beautiful and colourful
format!
